During the bull cycle of 2021 the community of new internet builders positioned itself as a rebellious teenager: slamming the principles and so-called achievements of its parents (Web2) while deeply nostalgic for the uncorrupted world of its grandparents (Web1).
Web3‘s admiration of Web1 has exploded through a wave of open-source projects draped in webcore aesthetics. Every second DAO is discussing a Whole Earth Catalog reinvention, early Steve Jobs quotes stream endlessly on Crypto Twitter, and there are enough whitepapers citing or straight-up rewriting “The Hacker Manifesto” for a yearlong read – to say nothing of the surge in threads dedicated to ASCII art and fandom or the overlooked creative potential of Unicode.
Web3’s allegiance with Web1 is, among other things, a means of distancing itself and the evils of Web2 (with the exception of Tumblr and Soundcloud—these platforms are amnestied). From its core to its scammy edges, this rejection has defined the movement thus far. But if Web3 is to grow up, it will need to grow out of both idolatry and iconoclasm. Speaking of the past only in absolutes only robs us of the self-reflexivity necessary for the movement to rise to its fullest potential.
Every teenager steps into adulthood when they encounter their first challenges and start to think for themselves rather than in spite of the previous generation. A Web3 with a fully developed frontal lobe will own its mistakes and lessons, as well as bear markets, flakey participation, fallen coins, and rigid regulators. How will future generations think of the blockchain when it’s no longer a shiny new toy? The answer depends on how we think about it today.
PS: The idea of a physical artifact about and by blockchain builders might not seem especially on brand. Printed matter, however, retains the same sense of immutability and requires precision and intention when deployed (i.e. sent to the printer.) The print issue of Zine is a meta take on the perpetuity of the digital annals.

What is this NFT?
We created a limited-edition NFT for a digital mint of Zora Zine Print Issue 001. It can be redeemed for a physical copy of Zora Zine’s inaugural 250-page print issue, produced in collaboration with Actual Source.
In order to receive a physical copy of the print issue, you will need to: 1) mint the NFT; and 2) redeem it for the print issue as a separate step (described in more detail below).
Upon redeeming your NFT for the print issue, you will receive a separate NFT to commemorate the redemption, which will be sent to the same digital currency wallet you used to mint the NFT.
How do I obtain (i.e. “mint”) a Zora Zine Print Issue 001 NFT?
Navigate to this website, click “Connect wallet,” and follow the instructions to link your digital currency wallet to the website. Then click the “Mint” button and confirm the transaction in your wallet. Additional platform fees may apply.
Purchasing this NFT will not give you access to the physical print issue. You will need to redeem your Zora Zine Print Issue 001 NFT beginning on May 25th to fill out the proper information to receive your print issue by mail.
What forms of payment do you accept to purchase the NFT?
For the NFT: Ether (“ETH”)
For international shipping of the print issue: Credit card (there is no cost to you for shipping within the US).
What does “redeem” mean and how do I redeem the Zora Zine Print Issue 001 NFT for a physical copy once I’ve minted?
You will be able to redeem your Zora Zine Print Issue 001 NFT for the print issue starting May 25th. When the print issue is ready for redemption, we will make announcements via Zora Zine’s official social media accounts on Twitter, Instagram, Farcaster, and Discord. The redemption flow is connected to Shopify, which will generate orders for the distribution center, located in Austin, Texas.
Once the redeem option is available:
The burning process might take some time and once it is ready you will be able to proceed to shipping details.
Follow the instructions (this will include being directed to a Shopify page to enter your shipping information and (if you are outside the US) make your shipping payment).
When you execute this redemption process, your original ERC-721 NFT will be “burned” and a new token will be sent to your wallet. The new ERC-1155 token will commemorate the redemption and serve as a reminder that you have redeemed your physical copy. This new commemorative NFT will appear in the same wallet you used to mint the original NFT. The “burn” of the original token and mint of the new token happens in one transaction. Fees are applied.
The shipping process for your print issue will also be initiated. Shipping information and any other personal information you provide to Shopify will be treated in accordance with Shopify’s Privacy Policy.
